The roots of this unique community are from Dr. "Doc" Cosby, a Wisconsin businessman who owned the 43,000 acre cattle ranch and purchased the DC Brand in 1901.  The last cattle drive from the ranch to the Phoenix railroad was in the late 1950's.  The land was developed by DC Ranch LLC, a division of DMB Associates Inc who partnered with the owners to create a truly unique Master Planned Community in 1993 with a goal of total build out by 2007.  With 16,000 acres donated to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve and Scottsdale Trail System, DC Ranch has a total of 8281 acres with approximately 2600 developed acres for unique residences.

Scottsdale real estate sales in DC Ranch in 2008 were 145 properties ranging from a condo with 909 SF selling for $183,000 to a 9093 SF home in Silverleaf for $6,150,000.
